Dear Friend,

Tomorrow is Election Day and YOU can make a difference! Take the time to remind students of the importance of going to the polls and help them with questions they may have on this important day.

Research has shown that young people's attitudes towards voting are definitely influenced by whether their high school teachers encouraged them to vote - even years out! See below how young people ages 18-29 had very different levels of agreement with the statements below depending on whether they heard encouragement in high school to vote.
 
I haven’t registered so isn’t it too late?

Where am I supposed to go to vote? 

What do I need to bring to the polling place to be sure I can vote?

  • If it’s your first time voting at this polling location, you will need to bring proof of ID (driver’s license, school ID, social security card, etc.) to the polling place. This is to verify your registration. 
  • If you haven’t registered yet, you must bring your ID and a proof of residency.

How can I find out about what’s on the ballot to vote?

  • Go to Vote411 and enter in your address. This will tell you what’s on your ballot based on where you live. You can even print out your voting plan.

  • Ballot Question Explainer will help you understand the 5 referendums on the ballot.

  • Using Vote Tripling, ask people you know to get three people in their life to cast their ballots. Then ask those people to do the same, and so on!
  • Start a conversation about why you are going to vote. You don't have to push what or who you are voting for just that you are voting!
  • Share a ride to the polls! Check out discounted Lyft rides.
    • Portland, Bangor, and Lewiston city buses all operate for free on election day! 
  • Share your plan to get out to vote on your social media and then post a selfie after voting.
  • Speak up in class to encourage all to vote.
